Over the winter of 20-21 I built an FPV racing style drone. I specced and sourced all parts as well as wired and programed the avionics using BetaFlight. For control, I used a FRSky QX7 with a TBS Crossfire Tx module for its enhanced range (up to 40km) and low control latency. The video signal was transmitted on a separate 5.4GHz analog channel and received by SkyZone goggles using an Immersion RC Rapid fire receiver module (also sporting long range and low latency). Over the winter of 23-24, the drone was rebuilt using modern parts and larger motors to achieve higher speeds. While the drone's speed was never measured, a similar build achieved around 115mph.Â
